| Description of the project |
USE-IT! stands for Unlocking Social and Economic Innovation Together.
In a nutshell, USE-IT! involves organisations and individuals working together to unlock social and economic opportunities in Ladywood, Soho and Smethwick by linking large capital investments (i.e. the new Midlands Metropolitan Hospital, new housing developments and potential plans for the canals and Edgbaston Reservoir) with local skills, talents and micro-capital.
The project includes:
– Social Enterprise. Supporting the creation of a community of social entrepreneurs and community led businesses.
– Community Research. Local people researching their own communities, finding out about the skills and assets already present, what works and what challenges they face.
– Skills Matching. Matching job skills in the community with demand, initially around the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital.
– Social Finance. Understanding and strengthening community assets and sustainable finance.
