But it is starting from our neighborhood that it has found stronger and stronger forms of resistance and courage.”As traditional assemblies, they have fixed meetings organized as public assemblies. With regards to the membership, it is quite heterogeneous since it collects people that have nothing in common apart from the concern for their neighborhood. |

| Description of the project |
The oldest settlement of Casal Brunori is dating back to the early 1990s. The neighbourhhod has a high rate of green areas, as the Ort9 Park, which owes its name to the word Orto (vegetable garden) and to the number 9, the district of Rome where Ort9 is located.
The Urban Garden of Casal Brunori is an example of a fruitful unity of at least three components: local people’s needs (represented especially by Vivere in…onlus), high social purpose (represented especially by the european project) and environmental protection. Furthermore, even if at first the Municipality of Rome seemed not to want cooperate, thanks to citizens’ tenacity, it finally changed its direction and made this project possible to realize. |

Una pista ciclabile “in piena regola” con tanto di simbolo della due ruote e striscia bianca. E’ spuntata a Roma, nel tunnel di Santa Bibiana, tra l’Esquilino e il quartiere universitario di San Lorenzo. L’iniziativa è stata realizzata da uan decina di cittadini-volontari per diminuire i rischi dei tanti ciclisti che devono percorrere il traforo. Così armati di pennelli e di stencil il ‘Gruppo di Cittadini Promotore’ ha tracciato il percorso. E su un cartello affisso ne ha spiegato i motivi: “Il sindaco Marino, che è sensibile al problema perchè usa la bici, capirà sicuramente e raccoglierà subito la nostra domanda di sicurezza, ovunque è possibile farlo a costo zero. A partire dal tunnel di S. Bibiana”.

The area where the social centre is located is part of the former CISA-SNIA Viscosa factory, closed and abandoned several decades ago. On 12 February 1995, the part housing the social centre was occupied, blocking a gigantic building speculation that would have affected the entire area of the former factory. Another part of the area, now a public park, was expropriated two years after the occupation and returned to the citizens, thanks to the mobilization of the citizens, the neighborhood committee and the occupiers. The occupation therefore began as an act to claim the re-appropriation of denied spaces, for their social and collective use and not linked to profit or delegation logics. (source : former website) |
