Date Started 1998 – changing in 2020
Description of the project In 1998 Singapore decided to implement Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system. The ERP focuses on the distance travelled by the driver during specific times on the day. When a vehicle passes the through and ERP gantry the In—vehicle Unit (IU) which pays the amount owed based on your preference. You can pre-pay unto a card inserted within in IU or you are able to use Backend payment services. If you enter through an ERP gantry without using any of the 2 payment options with will receive an ERP violation. The IU is mandatory for all vehicles; it was given free to any existing vehicles when it was first introduced. Each IU also is colour-coded dependent on the type of vehicle. This is in order to stop the possibility of the units to be transferred between vehicles.
