| Description of the project | Land expropriation in Sugarcane village lasted from 1992 to 2012. In 2007, when the land expropriation and compensation payments came close to an end, the Sugarcane village shareholding company was established.
In Sugarcane village, where none of the former village cadres sit in the residents’ committee, the company is less involved in conflict resolution in the community. However, because it has a unique advantage of rich local knowledge and networks, staff at the residents’ committee who are hired from outside the village usually consult the company’s board members or ask them to be intermediate persons in resolving conflicts among the villagers. |
