Description of the project		Fibre is a service that allows professionals in Lagos to live in quality homes and pay monthly. This is as opposed to the one / two year upfront rent payments that are the norm in Nigeria today. In some locations, they have introduced shared housing to create a more affordable option for young professionals. With the payment of a membership it is allowed to live in the locations that they offer and pay monthly. It also means you can seamlessly move into another location, should your living requirements change.

Description		Engage Liverpool is a social enterprise run by volunteers run by volunteers who live in the apartments of the Waterfront and of the City Centre. They care passionately about sustainable living in the City Centre and are committed to making it a place where people would want to live out the whole of their lives and not just for a brief transitional period in their youth. It is a fully democratic institution where all Board members are elected by residents who are members of Engage and who hold the Board to account at each AGM. They have run projects that make a positive contribution to the liveability of the City Centre and Waterfront, and they encourage and promote debate about urban living in our annual Seminar Series. They also hold Workshops to assist residents and leaseholders to better manage the apartment buildings where they live. Their mission statement is to improve the quality of life for people living in Liverpool City Centre and Waterfront neighborhoods by empowering residents through aspirational engagement and action to bring about positive transformation and progress

Description		Public works is a critical design practice set up in 2004 that occupies the terrain in-between architecture, art, performance and activism Together with their interdisciplinary network, they re-work the city’s opportunities towards citizen driven development and nurturing their rights over the city. Public works’ projects are interested in what constitutes civic in the city and how to re-design structures that restrict it. The work gives space to and facilitates civic practices which promote direct involvement and collective action in order to transform and re-appropriate contemporary public life. Their outputs are not limited to buildings, or art objects, but they include discursive events, research, campaigns, urban strategies, participatory art and architecture across all scales. Their means of output is defined by what is most appropriate for the project and the urban context, ranging in scale from pamphlets to urban strategies. Its aesthetic and spatiality are determined by external collaborators involved, which makes every public works project aesthetically varied.

Description		La Casa Invisible is a social and cultural center co-managed by citizens that was born in 2007 when a network of citizens .and social innovators decided to give new life to a beautiful building owned by the municipality and versing in a state of abandon and degrade. The aim of this group of citizens were: to stimulate processes of social auto-organization that strenghthen the social movements working for social justice; to create a lab of cultural experimentation based on cooperation, collaboration and free culture criteria; to facilitate paths of learning for topics (social sciences, politics, ICT, arts) that stimulate critical thought, social creativity and collective action; to experiment new models of collective management of commons.

Description		The Chengdu municipal government devised participatory budgeting as a ‘top down’ strategy with the scope to promote village- level projects to empower local decision-making. Mayan Village became one of the pilot villages for implementing participatory budgeting village-level public service and social management due to its weak economic development and infrastructure. An allocation of 200,000 Yuan was provided by a two-tier financial management system of Chengdu and Qionglai for this process.
